Is your name on your Twitter Profile?

If social media is about being social, why do some people NOT put their name on their bio? Often I get frustrated when I can’t address someone by their first name because it doesn’t exist!  I thought it was just me being picky .. but I knew I wasn’t the only one when I attended a recent networking event.

Three of us were tweeting leading up to the event, I knew both of them – but they didn’t know each other.  One of them did not have her name on her profile :(  The other one did :)  I didn’t know this at the time or I would have introduced them – instead it was slightly uncomfortable when one of them had to ask the other one’s name (if you can follow…)

The main lesson here is include your name on your bio so that others can address you by first name – both on Twitter AND in person!

Before you RT ……

It’s Twitter Tuesday and here is my top tip for the week!

As a follow on from last week … When you are retweeting something, make sure you actually open the link and check out the post first!

Often times, I go to read something that interests me and I come to a page where I am asked to sign up for something OR the post is something completely different than I expected – sometimes even potentially offensive! You always want to make sure you are adding value for your followers and RT’ing random tweets without reading them is careless! So for today – 2 things:

1. Open and read the posts – make sure you are not asked to sign up for anything, and that it is actually adding value

2. When you RT – make sure you put your own ‘spin’ on the post for example ‘Great read for anyone starting off on Twitter’ (or something similar – whatever you can fit in! :)

Any thoughts on this?? Would LOVE to hear some RT’s went wrong! :

Happy Tweeting
